This article was eye-opening. I never knew all this detailed information. I can’t believe that that 61.8 million Americans contributed 8 billion hours of volunteer service, what’s even better is all the money it’s worth. This is just amazing. I knew that volunteering was important but I didn’t know that it was to this extent. Another astonishing thing is that the number of volunteers increased despite the economic situation. I’m pleased to see the number of young adults who volunteered in 2008; their interest in helping other people in need is delightful. After reading this article I’m looking forward to volunteering and working on the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge project. It’s nice to know that you’re helping your community and making use of your time.

This truely is a great article to read to reinforce the knowledge of how important it is to be active in the volunteer community. The statistics in this article don't lie and they show how important these efforts are to other people. This article also talks about how efforts as a volunteer are being put to use even in a time where the national and world economies are deterriorating. I'm glad that we as a group can put our volunteering efforts to a worth while purpose such as the Wildlife Refuge.

I was astounded by the number of people who volunteer, and how many hours were achieved. Agreeing with Sara, it was amazing to see that the economic situation did not have and effect on the number of volunteers or the numbers of countless hours spent by them. The mindset before was when learning about the refuge was a little different than now. Before it was just us, our little cluster in the woods doing something that most people would not appreciate or ever even hear of. Now we see that we are part of a bigger picture with many, many more people who feel the same way. If more people were able to see this article I am sure we could increase that number of people substantially.

These statistics did help me to have a little bit more appreciation for community service. Realizing how many people around the country volunteer, and how much time people sacrifice to help the community inspired me and made me feel proud of America's service efforts. Now that I have read these statistics, I can better appreciate our attempts to help the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge because all I need to keep in mind is that our ten hours of service go to make America a better place and are something that we can be proud of.

I think volunteer work is so important and it just goes to show you that despite the challenges of the economy in the past year, the volunteering rate held steady and if anything has increased. I'm really happy to be a part of something that helps the community, even if its something small I think it is important for us all to come together and make some sort of difference.

I've already loved to volunteer before, but this makes me want to do it even more. I'm surprised that it never occured to me that the nonprofit orgs were doing so poorly, even though the entire economy is. And what's worse, is that since the economy is doing so poorly, it's putting more people in need of some organizations. Now not only do they have less money than in past years, but more people to account for. It seems like a big whole. I am glad to hear that more people have been helping out though. I think the state of the country right now is giving people a new respect for struggling people/businesses. I'm even more impressed at how much my generation is helping. We get so much flack from people saying that we're lazy, and all this other stuff. I'm glad that people my age are interested in what's going on in the world and actually want to help out. Reading this article makes me want to get out and do more, too.

I am used to volunteering, but I have never volunteered at a venture like the DRIWR project before. I don't think that this article changed my views on the project specifically, but I think it did open up my eyes to the fact that polls stated that non-volunteers are more likely to make the effort if someone approaches them about helping. Hearing that makes me more aware of the fact that people are likely to help if asked. Also, I can understand that people would be more likely to volunteer if they are sure the skills they possess will be useful, but they need to be told that there are things they can help with that don't need mad skills like being able to pound in a nail with a hammer. Which is good for me since I have always had trouble with hammers.

To me it is important to volunteer and this just shows how important it really is. I was kind of shocked by the fact that even though the economy is bad people still want to help and volunteer. It makes me happy that can help out and add more numbers to the amount of people that volunteer.

I obviously knew that volunteering is a big thing but i didn't know that there would have been so much information about it. After reading this, i will be looking forward to volunteering more and doing whatever i can! that includes the wildlife refuge project!

The article really surprised me, I knew a few of my friends volunteered but I wasn't sure of the immense impact of money or time alone could create. Since organizations are relying on volunteer work now more than ever it is nice to know that our nation is stepping up to the plate. I personally volunteered at a camp for a couple weeks out of my summer in 2008, and loved it. Working at the wild life refuge was never out of the question for me but now I see how much help it can really do, and it motivates me all the more.

The stats this article supplies is outrageous. It's great that so many people volunteer for work to make things better. It is very important that people help out especially when things aren't great in the economy.

I think that this article basically shows how important volunteering is. It helps gain experience for teens and for them to help people. With more and more people starting to volunteer everyday, it helps others and the enivornment out drastically. I think that it is a very good idea for our cluster to help at the wildlife refuge because we all can make a difference and experience it first hand.

I always believed that volunteer work was a wonderful thing, and after reading this article it only stregnthens my notion. I'm happy that we got a chance to go to the wild life refuge but sad that we couldn't make a difference for them. Maybe in the future we can do something more for them.
